The Hill Castle apartments are located at 1431 Jackson, Oakland Ca. It is in a historic area known as The Gold Coast. I was lucky enough to live there for several years, between 1999- 2002. Its a great old building, but unfortunately I cant find much about it on the internet. From what I remember the manager at the time telling me, it had been a fancy hotel back in the day. It may have had some kind of lounge or bar attached as well. When I moved there in 1999, it had gone through a massive renovation after being run down for years, and at one point being closed down by the City due to drug use, prostitution and crime. This part of Oakland (downtown/Lake Merritt) has improved a lot over the last 10-15 years. This photo was taken on 7/2/10.
