The peak of Mt. Kinrara

2008.06.18
The peak of Mt. Kinrara. I've been told that there's a similar monument at the peak of every mountain in this nation... it's a wonder how I ever got up there!

I was heart-broken when I thought I'd lost all the shots taken during the walk up, but so glad I found this in my mobile phone! It was a relief to find this clearing, but after this, there was no time to waste... trying to find our way down...

Remnant of a beautiful, Chinese bungalow at the peak of Gasing hill. Inside, there is an ancient well, living rooms, courtyards...

Didn't quite like these windows, though... the previous owners must have changed the old and much nicer ones for these panes...

Wow... now we've arrived at Pantai Hill, from Gasing Hill.

After we got down, we looked up and were amazed at how far we had actually hiked...

The house was absolutely intriguing and as usual, I was disappointed not to have enough time to appreciate the sights.

I thought I had lost this shot, but was really relieved to find it in on my mobile's sim card. These shots mark my first training session before scaling Mt. Kinabalu.

Expecting the session to be at some park, I never thought that it would turn out to be perhaps the most harrowing event of the year for me... worse than the actual hike up and down Mt. Kinabalu because there were NO trails to follow, jungle sounds followed us everywhere, with sightings of the most adorably tiny monkeys and spotted a couple of pitcher plants.

Still, there were loads of deadly fire ants' homes that fouled the hike. WS got attacked, but I was lucky to get out with a couple of scratches, bruises and loads of thorns all over my body from the plants I hung on to when we got lost and it started to rain and it got so dark, I couldn't even see the palm of my hands.

I panicked when we got lost going up, but felt great to arrive at the peak, then panicked again when we got lost going down.

Days later, we went for another hike at a different jungle: Gasing hill to Pantai Baru... I'm surprised how I endured these bouts of self torture just to prepare for the worse ahead.
