Spectacular Day in Chicago!

[enlarge] If you need sun, surf, sand and palm trees to call it a beach, head to Oak Street beach. They have installed palm trees for that tropical feel! (1100N)

Mom thought this was hysterical when she saw it last month. :-)

Just north of Navy Pier along Lake Shore Drive, swimmers train in the lake for the triathlon. Also, there were a hundred or so boats moored just past the swimmers but inside the breakwall. I'm not sure if it's a giant party or what (that's what it looked like.) OK, thank you Google (search term = chicago ave boats saturday) Apparently, it was a party! (800N)

Chicago Scene's Eighth Annual Boat Party
DJ Jernell Geronimo

Chicago Scene invites all Chicagoans with a boat, yacht, Jet Ski, or even a canoe to its summer boating fete, where hundreds of boats will link up with one another in Lake Michigan's "Play Pen" (just north of the water filtration plant at Chicago Avenue Beach).

Partygoers will enjoy the sounds of DJ Jernell Geronimo, who will spin music specifically mixed for the occasion.

Cool Globes in front of the Field Museum. Shedd Aquarium in the distance.

Last summer, "Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet" was launched in Chicago. The public art exhibit featured more than 120 larger-than-life globes each designed to depict a solution to global warming. This summer, a selection of globes will once again be on display at the Field Museum.

The Big Beaver Totem.

This 65-foot-tall cedar totem pole was carved in 1982 by Norman Tait, a member of the Nishga Isimshian Native American tribe of the Pacific Northwest. The totem explains the ancestry of Tait's family, whose clan symbol is the beaver. Big Beaver was commissioned by the Field Museum to commemorate its Northwest Coast and Arctic People exhibits

My view of The Melismatics show at Lollapalooza 2008. LOL!

A more interesting shot than #14?

I went for an 18+ mile bike ride down the lakefront and back yesterday. My turnaround point ended up being the Field Museum. Yup, even dodging the runners, bladers, dogs and babies I got there in 35 minutes!

The temp was between 75-80 with low humidity. It was awesome. I hung out at the museum campus for an hour or so talking to Dad (who was between games in St Louis) and listening to Lollapalooza. Good sound, not much of a view. LOL.
