A large branch fell on the car during the night. I had trouble getting in the front doors and the back door no longer has the struts, is very heavy and i had to prop it with a little stick. Not much room for me to get in and drag them out. I had to push a rake in or they would have stayed there all day.

Largest wattle that fell. It landed on the edge of the shed roof. Not huge damage - better than the roof blowing off - but it cut off access to the shed and gardens down there.

Lovely large mangos all got blown off. As if this year wasn't bad enough from the mango point of view. We haven't had one yet that we could eat.

The ducks like them. But i picked up those that are intact and hope to make green mango chutney.

The fiddlewood that shades our living area and under which i just planted some ornamentals that require shade. Now there is none! I will have fun thinking what to plant here now.

What's left of one of the mangos. Luckily i wanted this one to come down. Its near the cumquats so its going to let more sunlight in now and that's good in this position.

I am glad to see these African Tulips uprooted. I'm going to plant coconut palms here.

No major damage to the umbrella trees. Just lost the berries this time. I've discovered they make lovely flower arrangments.

The coconut plantation down the road. There's many nuts down there to collect. If only it were easier to crack open a nut.

We were lucky here. It wasn't as bad as it could have been. It wasn't very bad at all for us though the power and phones were out for a few days. As you can see there are many trees down in my garden but there was no expensive damage.
The experience wasn't particularly frightening for me as the wind never got to screaming pitch and i heard none of the loud bangs one hears from falling branches and debris. I think i might even have fallen asleep before the worst past. Neighbours said it was over here by about 2am. It was getting pretty serious by about 8pm and I didn't dare venture outside after dark just in case.
One mistake i made in my preparations was not to buy enough batteries. They are so expensive and i thought i could manage without the radio. As it turned out, I had news-of-the-world-cyclone-withdrawals and regretted this choice.
Most of our neighbours had some what similar situations to deal with. Lots of trees down but no devastating damage.
Today, three days after the cyclone it has started to rain heavily. I am happy to see it here. It was good that it was fine immediately after the cyclone so that people could quickly get things cleaned up. There's still a lot to be done here .
The government is giving us $1000 (in our case because we were without power for more than 48 hours) and I've decided to do a chainsaw course and buy a chainsaw if the money will cover it. Dad's done it and got one but there's so much to be done and i am getting impatient. He's also getting old.
Looks like you folk were let off pretty lightly, all things considered. I haven't been able to contact my cousin near Cardwell, but I assume their banana crop has been wiped out. Just hope the family and the house are ok.
Glad you came through without anyone getting hurt. You have the perfect attitude for recovering from a storm. Instead of,"oh woe is me my landscaping is gone." you're positive with,"I'm going to plant this, this, and that." LOL@ ducks taking over the Subaru.
