10 July - Durack River to another spot by the side of the road

I think that puddle amounts to an actual creek. If not there is another one nearby where i had a wash. The road is coming off a hill. These last couple of days have started to be a little more hilly. And inexplicably heavier with traffic as well. As you can see its bitumened. They do that on the hilly sections of the road otherwise it would be a total nightmare.

I'm at camp just on dusk when these people pull up to say g'day. They are, if i recall correctly, a german, a brit and a kiwi and there might even be a fourth person hidden in the back. They were very sweet. Backpackers. It was the driver who told me about the concept of trail angels. These people were also happy to be trail angels for me as you can see below. Can you see the hand and the camera out the back window. I love that. Given the raucous paintjob, i think this may be a hired 4WD.

Donations to the cause. Alas the choc milk was already half drunk but you can imagine, it was quite a treat for me. Luckily i would never need the rubber cement and tyre patches. And one is also very happy to have fresh fruit.

Well i can hardly remember anything of this day but what i do recall is mainly about looking for a campsite at the end of the day. There had been signs around here saying that camping was illegal. But what else was i to do. I've come to the conclusion that the rule pertains to those with a caravan especially. We are now on Home Valley Station property. Home Valley is an aboriginal station and its being run to provide income, training experiences and the like for local aboriginal communities. I will be there tomorrow.

But today i ride and ride and find nowhere with a little water course that is suitable for camping. I do find some swampy areas but i can't even access the water very easily because of the long spiky grass. I think i may have had to stop traffic once or twice today or in previous days for top ups to my water supply. I can't really remember.

Even though that is the case, i think always managed to wipe of the dirt before jumping into my sleeping bag.

Once again, its annoying that these are all the pictures i've got to show. Sometimes i make it a rule to always take a snap of my campsite but i seem to have changed the rule.

Next trip i am resuming that rule, no matter how repetitive my campsite pics might end up being.

CHOSSID 1 is beautiful, rest is interesting. The name of the river means "idiot" in Russian!

lisamnz PS I was always really bad at the washing before bed thing when we free camped. You always regret it in the morning.
