The Queen's Jubilee was anticipated to be as big as Christmas here ! It was all over the TV, shops (including mine) used it as an easy promotional tool and the steets were tangled in miles of Union Jack bunting flags.
Was a good event to see- over the four day weekend, people were out and about enjoying street parties and making the most of their free time, in what turned out to be appropriately characteristic dismal weather.
It was interesting too to find out what people had planned for the celebrations in the lead up to June 2-5.
Most of them (not including the crowds of Americans who seem to have invaded all my local duresses) planned to attend what is known as a street party, where neighbours or communities gather in the street and entertain themselves on long trestles laden with typically English food and drink.
I made an attempt to attend firstly Datchet on the Saturday, but arrived too late; but made in to the Windsor Eton event, where the party atmosphere successfully rivalled the rainy weather.
