So last week I'd gone to Jakarta for work and on one of the days we had a field trip to Bandung, which was a 3-hrs drive from the city. Whilst the rest went shopping I took my camera and ventured out to the streets. There were kids begging for loose change but really, they're not in it for the money. Sure they'll come running to you begging for spares and stuff but the sad fact is that they don't even get to keep any of the hard chips you hand over to them.
A tip I learnt is to stash a handful of those chupa-chup lollies into your bag and trade it for a picture or two and I bet these gorgeous kids will gladly freeze a couple of sec for you. :)

What a beautiful set of portraits - lovely job, they are gorgeous children! Hope you had a fun and safe trip (as fun as a work trip can be!)

Beautiful colletcion and nice story. When I worked in the Sahara desert, many children came running and looking for a small gift. It was nice and sad at the same time. Nice because their smiles were awesome. But sad because their happines were ephimeral. During a visit to a school, the teacher told me that it was better take the gifts to the school. Children didn't got to the school because they thought that they could get gifts waiting for tourist on the roads. So, if we take the gifts to the school, more fathers would take their children there and it would be better. I suppose that it isn't the same case. Anyway the small in their eyes is beautiful!

i always had problems trying to capture the kids. will try popping some chuppa chups the next time i travel.
