Hawaii has a terrible problem with feral cats. Blackie was a feral kitten, rescued by Gregg's parents. When she darkened their door she had a tumor in the roof of her mouth that was growing and pushing into her brain, causing her equilibrium to be off. Thus, she holds her head at a tilt. She was also extremely malnurished (she couldn't EAT any food she could find) and infested with ticks and fleas. They spent an obscene amount of money for a surgery (that had to be performed in Honolulu) to save this cat. They said it was the best money spent. She (along with the other 18 rescued cats) take daily walks with my mother-in-law around the property with their 90 lb. dog daily. They are all spoiled rotten. I love my in laws for their compassionate spirits.

That is amazing. Blackie is beautiful and I love the tilt to her head. She's a character. Very cool that Gregg's parents have a such welcoming home.

What a gorgeous cat! Excellent shot of him. God bless your in-laws. Animals rescue, especially kittys, is very near & dear to my heart. Blackie could be a twin of my Buckwheat, who we think was a Bombay. I had him for 15 years & just lost him last summer. I miss him every day.

That's so touching. I have to chuckle when I think of your MOL with 18 cats running along with her (or rolling in the dirt, or chasing bugs or bathing or whatever. Very nice picture and very nice story. Love you, Mom

Aw, blacky is so cute. He looks all nice and warm, sitting there in the sun. I can just imagine petting his black fur, and feeling the warmth.
