The GOZSDU COURT RENEWS - I.

2008.07.30

Gozsdu Udvar is situated in Budapest's 6th district. It is in a prime location just off Kiraly Utca only moments away from Andrassy Boulevard. This six storied building has seven buildings that are separated by courtyards.

This up market development is due for completion mid 2007 and is one of the most impressive historic buildings in Budapest; it is currently being converted into a mixed-use residential and commercial complex. Originally the brainchild of Manó Gozsdu, a renowned figure in 19th Century Transylvanian and Hungarian-Romanian history, he played a fundamental part in the Romanian national movement and the Hungarian reform era.
pixel
The history of Gozsdu Court dates back to the very beginning of the 20th century. Mano Gozsdu established the Gozsdu Foundation in 1900 with the aim to design and build a magnificent complex consisting of seven buildings with six interconnecting courtyards. Two years later the construction work started based on the designs of Győző Czigler.

The Gozsdu Court , having been managed by the Foundation for a long time, changed owners twice during its history; first it was nationalised in 1952. This status was also confirmed by the inter-state agreement concluded between Rumania and Hungary in 1953. Subsequently, it was sold to private investors in 1999, thereby providing the opportunity for the Gozsdu Court , which was once regarded as one of Budapest 's most beautiful buildings, to beam in its ancient splendour again.

Gozsdu Court, connecting Király and Dob streets, is one of the most unique retail and residential building complexes in Budapest. Once full of bustling commercial life in the courts of the passageway, this marvellous row of buildings was a delight. Autóker Holding Zrt. is bringing this hundred-year-old monument back to life, restoring its façade consistent with its original condition.

The main buildings will be converted into elegant apartments whilst courtyards will form an exclusive shopping street accompanied by first-class restaurants. This unique spectacle of the capital will provide a home for countless events in the future. Art exhibitions, concerts and fashion shows.

The 4800-square metre "chain of courts" interconnecting the Király and the Dob Streets are composed by seven buildings and by six courts enclosed by the buildings. This specific and unique passage interlaces the two parallel-running downtown streets by forming a quasi passageway chain. The staircases of the building blocks open from vaulted passageways interconnecting the courts. The erstwhile/future shops open partly into the atriums and partly situated under the vaults.

The Gozsdu Court will be renovated by preserving its original impressive trait, in a manner that should also comply with all requirements laid on up-to-date dwelling and living spaces. The renovation of the building, as soon as completed, will also provide the opportunity for establishing the Madách Promenade, which has been planned to be implemented for such a long time. Thus, this part of the Downtown, which was declared by the UNESCO to be part of the world heritage, will be enriched by a really impressive building complex.

My friends,Nicky - the vocalist,Pecek - the drummer,Gábor - the guitarist...The concert coming soon !

The erstwhile impressive row of shops will be renovated, just like the building blocks being of six storeys each. On the upper storeys, apartments of luxury standard will be constructed and the shop premises will accommodate restaurants offering special gastronomic experience, a vinarium specialised in Hungarian wines and shops offering different services necessary for living a modern life.
