Delhi's treasures

This image is a bit skewed. I'm just having a Luddite moment and don't want to tamper with it. This is a pretty typical representative of what is called Indo-Islamic art. The tree of life embellished with ''aayat'' or verses from the Quran.
Since creation of graven images is forbidden in Islamic art, the closest that the artistes came to was floral patters, which, it is claimed, they learnt from their Hindu counterparts. Please observe the gorgeous arabesque on the top row of this photograph. This pattern is alive and well and can still be seen in jewellery or on clothing.

websterella Beautifu. I'm looking to use similar patterns in carvings in my pottery.

sydneylizzie Absolutely beautiful. It reminds me of similar decorations at the Alhambra palace in Granada - I went totally mad trying to photograph them because 2 dimensions just don't do them justice!
