How did it get to this?

this photo makes me sad. i live in a society more concerned about what to buy tomorrow and the accumulation of wealth, than the welfare its own people. this scene made me think about the inequality. while this person doesn't even have enough money to have a roof over their head, someone else tomorrow will spend thousands of pounds on a piece of clothing that they don't even need, just a metre or two away. how did it get to be like this?
