Vicotria Falls Part 2

Barbara headed off early this morning to ride elephants. She had decided in Cambodia to buy an elephant, so I think she was comparing the African to the East Asian elephants!

This elephant was 23 and was rescued as a baby from a lion attack. Her truck is trunkated...! The ride was gentle and quiet through the surrounding reserve.

The elephant has lived all her life in this refuge and is very well trained and used to people. Here Barbara is chatting with her elephant while offering food pellets. The elephant sucked up the pellets into her trunk and then squirted them into her mouth.

Several monkeys were playing outside our room. We were warned to close the doors when we are not in the room as they would wreak havoc. This one certainly did damage to the landscaping, ripping off and eating most of the leaves of a small ornamental bush.

Back to the Falls this afternoon. From our last visit in November 2008, there are huge changes here. But the most startling was seeing the Falls with high water. Quite a different place.

Compared to this, at low water the section called Devil's Cauldron was just a trickle!
