The Raleigh area had cooler temperatures this morning after the cold front passed through last night... and no clouds to speak of... but there was still plenty of summer's purple haze out there, and it provided this perfectly filtered and strikingly colorful look at the just-risen sun (better still large on black). Above is a zoomed view of the same shot which offers an even better look at the interestingly banded sun, caused (just a guess) by subtle density contrasts in the atmosphere (also better viewed LOB). Sweet!
