Legendary writer Humayun Ahmed was laid to eternal rest at his most cherished place, Nuhash Palli. His admirers, fans, well-wishers, relatives and villagers paid an emotional farewell to the author, dramatist, screenwriter, playwright and filmmaker.

Humayun Ahmed has been laid to rest at his favorite retreat at Nuhash Palli in Gazipur on Tuesday.after the Johr prayer.

His admirers, fans, well-wishers, relatives and villagers paid an emotional farewell to the best storyteller.

Humayun was laid to final rest in the sylvan meadow under the shadow of litchi orchard around 2:05pm following his third namaz-e-janaza.

Thousands of people including his fans, relatives and friends thronged Nuhash Palli to say 'good bye' to the popular writer who captivated them for nearly four decades.

As Humayun was buried, rain, which had fascinated the writer most in his lifetime, poured down incessantly.

Humayun's elder son Nuhash led the pallbearers who gave their shoulders and placed Humayun in the grave. Nuhash was wearing a Panjabi of blue colour, the colour his father related with rainy season in many of his fictions.

Humayun's daughters Shila and Nova, second wife Meher Afroz Shaon and her sons Nishad and Ninit attended the burial along with the writer's two brothers – Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Ahsan Habib – and two sisters.

Earlier, the convoy of about 25 vehicles that started its journey from the mortuary of Birdem Hospital around 9:10am reached Nuhash Palli around 12:10pm.

Thousands of people irrespective of caste and creed, religion and political parties paid their last homage to the playwright at Central Shaheed Minar.

Earlier, hundreds of people lined up along the road in Gazipur as a convoy following the freezing vehicle carrying the body of Humayun reached Nuhash Palli around noon.

All of them took part in the writer's last namaj-e-janaza conducted by the Imam of a local mosque Mozibur Rahman. The writer was laid to rest in his grave dug out at Humayun's favourite part of Nuhash Palli, Lichu Tola.

Japan Bangladesh Friendship Hospital ambulance carrying Humayun’s body entered into the gate of Nuhash Palli at about 12 noon.

After completing formality, the body of Humayun was taken from the mortuary of BIRDEM Hospital at about 9:25 am.

Engineer Motahar Hoaasin, father-in-law of Humayun Ahmed received the body the noted novelist.

Zafar Iqbal, younger brother of Humayun, informed reporters that Humayun’s offspring Nuhash Ahmed, Nova and Shila also arrived at Nuhash Palli.

Zafar Iqbal told journalists that Humayun’s offspring wanted to bury him at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals’ graveyard because everyone can go there easily. But, Humayun’s wife Shaon was not convinced.

State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanok sat in a meeting with Humayun’s three offspring Nova, Shila and Nuhash for over one hour.

Earlier, the minister sat in a meeting with Humayun’s wife Shaon for two and half hours.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sent Jahangir Kabir Nanok as her representative to settle the matter as the family members of Humayun Ahmed could not reach in a consensus in this regard.

The body of eminent soap-opera maker Humayun Ahmed arrived here on Monday morning.

An Emirates Airlines flight carrying Humayun Ahmed landed at Shahjalal International Airport at 8:54am.

Thousands of people from all walks of life paid their last tribute to acclaimed writer and filmmaker maker Humayun died on July 19 at a New York at Bellevue hospital after battling with colon Cancer for about nine months. His first janaza was held in United States.

Earlier, the first namaz-e-janaza of eminent soap-opera maker was held at Muslim Center in Jamaica after Jumma prayer (NY time).

Humayun Ahmed breathed his last in Bellevue Hospital of USA on Thursday night after a nine-month battle against colon cancer.

Humayun often took his relatives and friends to Nuhash Palli that he built on a 40-bigha land at Pirujali in Gazipur saal forest.

Humayun loved nature and there are around 250 rare species of trees, mostly planted by the writer-filmmaker at the Nuhash Palli.

It is a shame that I haven't read anything from him yet but I am about to get a copy of his "1971". It can be tricky though because I cannot find it on amazon and there is just a little chance that bookstores in my country have his titles.
