mornin' stroll along bourbon st.

2008.10.11
crossing the streetcar tracks

Homes and architecture along Bourbon Street hearken back to the days of the Louisiana Purchase.

The sidewalks are swept and washed clean hopefully for one more day of revelry before the hurricane hits.

Breakfast at Mother's Cafe. A landmark since the depression era. National Guard prepare to patrol the streets.

The city comes awake.

Gustav 10 hours before landfall. I had to use a very tall ladder for this one : )

I just happened to be in New Orleans the day before hurricane Gustav arrived. The city is no stranger to hurricanes. People were celebrating labor day right up till the last moment. Then the Governor called for mandatory evacuation. And within a day the city was a ghost town.

maharba Oh Oh Ohhhhh.....look what I ran into. Tcalbaz has brought me home for a visit. The first one is a nice shot from Canal St. The palm trees are looking good. I like the second one looking towards Armstrong park.
The one on Bourbon st. cracks me up. They have to wash all that party funk away to start a new day. My initials are in one of those bricks on the sidewark. I normally don't do that but couldn't resist and then met the guy who made them. He was nice about it.
Thanks for the pics.
