Travelling light. The transient nature of both matter and memory means all is soon but gone. All that remains is the trace of a train of thought.

Due to the response and questions raised from the previous blog, I have decided to show some of the original explorations and ideas behind the developement of these works.
I hope the series of images above go somewhere in explaning the nature of creating these works, namely I am using light and movement alongside a slow exposure shot, usually about 5 or 6 seconds. Occasionally it is the light that is in movement, but usually it is the camera that is moved by the act of drawing.
I do not use post-production techniques or softwear to alter the image once the drawing has been shot, not because I am against it but because I see these things as more closely related to painting. In fact some of the best work I have seen on this site incorporates elements of post-production and I consider bedavid and worldthrumylens to be some of the greatest artists I have so far come across here. Occasionally, I find it neccessary to crop a shot, as I have done with both images from my previous blog.
All of these works were created in 2008, with the exception of the first, made in December 2007.

If you are interested to view more works like these, then simply go to my tags and click on the word 'light'.

????? not every one uses post production ted, and if they do, it is to transform the original, not enhance it. As this is an extension to drawing and painting to you... found by chance and introduction, then composition is the vital element....

bedavid OK. It´s working. Well, we have some great efects here. I did too some time ago make some experiences on that. It´s really funny, and the results are allways a surprise :)
And now I have to thank you for you words about post-production artists on photoblog, witch is an honnor coming from the real (hand) artist! I´m still learning, and each photo from everyone ( including you Ted) I see it´s inspiration to keep growing!
Thanks for your particular and inspiring vision!
:)

lookagain Wonderful set, Ted. To me, your light drawings evoke different emotions and ideas probably because of the manner in which they're created. Freedom and flexibility come to mind....something apart, of course, from the traditional ways to shoot images. I wonder....when you create a light drawing, do you have something in mind at the time, or do you wait until it's done to interpret and perhaps give it a title?
