Goat

This drawing I made about 2 years ago and has a significant value to me in terms of my journey in drawing.
You may notice that the style of it is somewhat different to the drawings I have presented here recently. This was made fully 1 year before I embarked on the series of Horses that you may have come to know here.
The Goat represents the pinnacle in a series of experiments in stencil drawings. Although, I have moved away from stencils in the main, there are techniques employed here that remain with me in my recent and current work. The outcomes of the past, influence the activities of the present and inform current and future works. Even though I hold this drawing warmly in my heart, it has sat for 2 years in a folder. Maybe I should consider framing it for possible exhibition or public viewing...this drawing has not before been seen, with the exception of a few close friends. I did not present it at college and for some time now have overlooked it completely.

The Goat was made by creating a stencil of the head, which was employed to make the image in various mediums. Layers were added, drawing and erasing, a repeated process of adding and removing layers, sometimes with the stencil and sometimes freehand. Each of these layers slightly or greaterly off-set, and the addition of a little colour creating depth and character to the figure.

Now I must go to town to buy charcoal and other materials for the current works in progress...
