The Quiet One

2009.07.31

Maniola jurtina (Linnaeus, 1758) - Meadow Brown.(male)

Thanks go to Nunuinpictures (Ruth) for identification and information.

I took these photos late yesterday evening and it was obvious that the creature just wanted to gather the last heat of the evening sun...
yet each time I tried to take photos, the butterfly observing me, flew off, yet always landing on or near the spot it had departed...
A quietly persistant butterfly with great character and camouflage, determined in gleening the the last heat of the day.

Coming soon Sketchbook Sunday
As from Sunday I will be be presenting a weekly blog called Sketchbook Sunday....in which I shall share ideas, thoughts and philiosophies concerned with principle sketchbook and drawing work....I realise that I often bore you with my enthuisastic love of drawing, and need to discipline myself here...and so will produce a weekly blog dedicated to artwork on a very basic and sketchbook level, which I hope will be both a forum for relaxed Sunday debate and an inspiration for those that want to draw.

Important - This could save lives!!
In a few weeks time, photoblog will launch a 'Don't shoot and drive' health and safety campaign, highlightring the dangers of photography whilst driving. In conjuntion with this, I will also make a blog decdicated to their campaign. I urge all of you to also dedicate 1 day/blog to make a statement concerning this issue. Please get involved and spread the word around amongst your friends here. For further information, contact
michael@photoblog.com
or
ted.barlow@hotmail.co.uk
Or simply ask your friends to contact me directy here on photobloog, please let me know if you are interested in participating and I will give you the date to make a meaningful and potentially life saving blog,
thank you, ted.

Jarvo Great close ups Ted. I've always struggled with butterflys, there movements always seem so unpredicatable - you've done well to find one that returned to the same spot. I look forward to your drawing blog.

nunuinpictures This is a super post!
I go step by step.

The photos amaze me! I'm really impressed because you captured the butterfly woth her wongs opened, and that's quite unsual in this kind of butterflies. I think she stayed close to you because that was her place to sleep. Butterflies usually open their wings when they want to heat up, but these species are very shy. Great work, Ted!

About your new blog Sketchbook Sunday. You never bore me with your draws. It's always very instructive and interesting to see what a professional do, even more if he provides information about his work. Remember that I'm still a mess ... And I need to learn some things for my illustrations, or at the end you have to do them! LOL

About shot and drive. Hey people! What's in your head? There are some thing you can't do at the same time, for example: to breath and to swallow. So take this in the same way and choos one: to shot or to drive! LOL
