Do you swim in the stream of time?
Maybe you try to live outside of time, or on the edge of time.
Is time subjective or universal?
Could it be both?
Most of us drift in and out of the conciousness of the stream of time; like walking into a darkroom at midday only to emerge later and discover it's nightfall, and thinking "My God, how did that happen?" Sitting down of an evening to do some drawing, shortly to realise that the 'hour' you planned to spend on an activity, has taken you well past midnight and you forgot to ring Mum. Or submerging yourself in a hot bath and letting your ideas take over before suddenly discovering that you're now chilled out in a tub of cold water :-))
Remember being a child and thinking that 5 minutes was an eternity? (Ok, sometimes it still is) And now how the days, weeks, months fly by...
Usually by this time of the year I'm rueing at how quickly it's all gone, but I don't feel that so much this year. For myself it has been a year of excitement, achievements and changes...at times I've had to slow it all down ;-)
How has your year been?
I guess we all have our lives regulated by the clock to some degree or other, but I prefer not to swim in the mainstream, nor do I remove myself from it completely. However we live, time happens anyway, regardless of how it's monitored or measured. Enjoy it, those 'lost' hours and those carefully adhered to also. Discover that you can dip in and out of the stream, it's like Touching...
The Edge of Time

For those of you not familiar with my work, you may think that I've found or chosen a new direction...not at all :-))
I've been drawing for years, and developing these kind of drawings and ideas for nearly 2 years now. I don't use post-production on the work, I'm simply using camera and drawing movement...or drawing with camera/light if you like.
If you want to see other works like this; go to 'options' below my name (top left) then click on 'tags' and from the list click 'light' or 'drawing'

Can I remind some people that it would be good to post a Sunday Gallery this week and if you have anything to contribute, please email images to me by Sunday morning, thanks. Or if you've hopped out of the stream of time, don't worry about it :-)

worldthrumylens excellent drawings! this post reminded me of a quote that i loved for a long time. it is from a children's book called Momo by the german writer Michael Ende.

"Life holds one great but quite commonplace mystery. Though shared by each of us and known to all, seldom rates a second thought. That mystery, which most of us take for granted and never think twice about, is time. Calendars and clocks exist to measure time, but that signifies little because we all know that an hour can seem as eternity or pass in a flash, according to how we spend it.

Time is life itself, and life resides in the human heart."

DutchMountains Again I like your work and this time: playing with the numbers of time

This year, time was moving very fast. Today is yesterday by the wink of an eye.

Pikapol a virtual garden of time. I like it.
I think this must be pretty impressive in a huge format - lets say in a wall size

lookagain Very intriguing the things you use to create your light drawings. I would never have imagined images such as those above could have been produced in that manner until I saw them. As for your musings about time....sometimes I wish I had the intelligence to comprehend it's true nature....very heavy stuff.

SADHYA I need time Ted, before I can comment on your work. Lets just say "Interesting" for the time being.

????? Great I like no 3 with no numbers evident but points.
Strange when I read your article somehow I thought about my childhood when I used to complain that my soup never seemed to finish . We had homemade soup every day , I was a fussy eater but I would take my soup. That is exactly what I miss now a great bowl of my Mum's homemade soup mmmmmm!!!!! Maybe has nothing to relate to your words though . I suppose we all have different ways of interpretating written words.

cavicca i will throw another compliment on the pile but these are cool images.
cavicca · 2009-10-24: 07:14
Jarvo Very cool images Ted. And such a though provoking post too. For me I seem to always underestimate time, so I live my life as if I've never got enough of it.

nunuinpictures I didn't notice the post, thinking it was the butterfly... LOL!
I'm amazed by your pictures... I like them all. It's a great work!
And your words... I can perfectly understand. It's very clear to me the difference between how I feel and understand time now and how I did it when I was a child.
But everything changes... I never use watch, it's a good way for not to be tie to time (oh! this is a tongue twister!!). thanks to my trips to Sahara desert I learned how important is to enjoy life and not to be worry about time. And moreover, I am reconnected.
Now I know that time is a human invention. We put limits to ourselves... Time is a barrier and we can break it.

Great post, Ted.
I really like it. And I add a picture to my favs (cause I like them all) and I want to remember this post.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks to the new job i can get my mind of certain things (to a certain extent) And time is really flying by now too, before i realise it the week is over again, just a pity the weekend flies by to and i can't seem to be able to catch up properly any more :-( Oh well, goes to show again that everything has it's positive and negative side.
