Welcome once again to the Gallery
Thanks to those who contributed.

AND read the text....

Untitled, collage - Steffi (pumacat), 2002

Thank you to those that contributed to this gallery and an equal thank you to all those that have come to visit and support this blog.
Once again we have been able to maintain this as a fortnightly event, though I am a little concerned that in this time we have only recieved 3 images from 2 contributors (excluding the 2 of my own)
Saying that, the work featured here is visually very strong and what we lack in quantity is made up for in the quality of these works. I had no hesitation in posting this as a strong gallery blog and I think you will agree that it holds its own against any previous gallery post.

The gallery seems to have been going from strength to strength in terms of the number of visitors and comments left, and so I know that this isn't the reason that contributions are drying up. I have recently seen a few references to 'Ted's Gallery' around the site and want to assure you that this is Your Sunday Gallery
The gallery blogs don't make themselves and your contributions are essential to the continuation of this post.

In order to renew interest in the contribution side of the gallery and truely make it everyone's art post, I thought it might be fun to take Our Sunday Gallery on Tour
This could be a short tour or a permanent activity in which different people take a turn at hosting the gallery on a Sunday. The gallery could travel around the site and this would generate new visitors and hopefully contributors.
I would be happy to be the main point of contact for you to mail the images to and would work with any hosts in any help with decision makings or advice they may need. The host would have the freedom to curate the shows in any way they pleased. I would also leave a direct link on my Sunday blogs for you all to find the gallery and would leave information about it during the week.
I understand that there will be some who think that the gallery should remain on my page. There may also be others that think that the gallery has run it's course and should be put into retirement. For us to continue this post I need to know your opinions on these matters and how you wish Your Sunday Gallery to evolve, thank you.

Now go and have another look at the artworks, which is why you came here in the first place...and don't forget to enlarge :-))

chossid Ted, I'm honored that my old pen and ink is posted. I think the idea of a roving gallery, to attract more contributions to the gallery is wonderful. Do not retire it please. Steffi (at last I know your name) -- I really like your collages. Are they made of your photos or clippings?
chossid · 2009-11-08: 06:16
revenant Fascinating contributions and, yes, I did read the text. I would love to contribute more to *the* Sunday Gallery (let's avoid possessives for now), but I was thrown out of art class at age 13. Photography is my revenge, but it doesn't improve my other visual art skills...

Anything collaborative here instantly gets my wholehearted approval. However, with a medium like a web page you need someone to drive it. Remember something called Cheddar Gorge? If an attempt like that can't be sustained, then it simply won't be, and that's no bad thing. It's already a marked achievement to have brought us five gallery posts, if that's any consolation for the frustration you're feeling.

As for reading the text, I was surprised to learn from Google Analytics that the average time spent by new visitors on a post with, say, 20 images and a 500-word text was a tad over two minutes. Wow, can those people read and appreciate images fast! Apologies to you and anyone here who might take offence at the above, but perhaps you're asking a bit too much from us to give the same care and attention that you do! Of course, if this prompts a deluge of rebuttals and contributions to the gallery, then I'll be as pleased as punch.

I, too, am very impressed by Pumacat's fascinating collages and again, am grateful to you for organising this, Ted.

revenant And I completely forgot to reply to your question: yes, it's a good idea to take the Gallery on tour, but I don't think it will work. Creative collaboration runs contrary to the ethos of this site. With that said, I volunteer my revenant slot for it. It won't, however, offset the drop in contributions but will occasionally deter viewers from looking for it despite the link and the program (which also has to be found). Also, although I willingly volunteer, I think it should be 'hosted' by someone with serious artistic credentials, which definitely rules me out.
Furthermore, I rather like the idea of it being *your* gallery. It's your brain child, driven by you. Falling stats or contributions are in no sense down to you and moving the gallery around doesn't address these issues. I would suggest persevering on your Sunday slot and taking stock after another five shows.

smbunation Another remarkable series that I am so glad is still going. I too read your commentary, Ted; and I agree with Stéfan that you being the master curator is the best way to go. I would hate to think that something like this series or even the playful nature of 'Cheddar Gorge' dissipated because of lack of interest, but honestly I think that far too many of us on PB swiftly skim blog posts and do not give the appreciation that some of these types of postings deserve. Having said that, I think your effort is still valued by many of us and I hope for it to continue.
smbunation · 2009-11-08: 08:38
monkey Thanks for showing my collages.
I also think that a gallery on tour wouldn't work.
But I will post a link in my new entries.
Maybe some others could also do so.
monkey · 2009-11-08: 08:40
monkey oh, I've posted this under monkey's name :-)

nunuinpictures Beautiful!!
Pumacat's collages are amazing.
But I'm impressed by the hands on #2, like bones... WOW!

About the gallery... I missed the date! How? I don't know...
maybe this week I've been too busy...
:(
nunuinpictures · 2009-11-08: 15:03
eternity65 Another great Gallery!!!
As always i like your work very much, but the contributors did great too, neat drawing and collages from Steffi and Leah!!

As for the Gallery itself, the idea of a moving one is good, but i also think it wouldn't work. You are the one with the knowledge of art, and it's your idea and baby, and i'm sure bit by bit the whole of PB will get to know this blog for it. Maybe it might be better if we all made some form of commercial for you on our blogs (with a link), hoping that others will send some works to you.
eternity65 · 2009-11-08: 15:36
lookagain Love to view the many talents of photobloggers on the Sunday Gallery....I commend you for facilitating it, Ted. Many of us who would love to participate simply don't have anything worthwhile to submit, but we do enjoy looking! Maybe if there aren't enough submissions for a weekly gallery you could do a monthly...just a thought.
lookagain · 2009-11-08: 17:42
jennye fantastic work!!

About it, I was and I'm kinda busy but I'll try to do a draw! Let's hope!

miltonjacob powerful and brilliant works. my choice is to have it under ur 'patronage'!
miltonjacob · 2009-11-12: 10:19
thebronzebow The gallery is wonderful as always. Just adding to what has been said, I think you are the best host for this event. It needs a particular dedication to keep it going. It has crossed my mind several times, but I lack your dedication to make the time. I'll try to do better.
thebronzebow · 2009-11-12: 10:45
bedazzled another wonderful gallery post Ted..great artwork !! I see everyone has said mostly what I intended to say so I would keep mum but we will all make sure that this effort remains alive and we get to see the wonderful works of people from around the world.
