Indian Shaddow Puppets

2007.01.24

I took this series in 2000 (God it sounds ancient now) in India. Sorry for their quality, but these were scanned a while back...the black lines are from that process...and I really should do something about that!

People have always fascinated me, behind each one of these figures is a story. Some pleasent, some not so pleasent. When these stories are voiced, we may see the shaddows of a beings past, but it's full colour and detail are unachievable.

A photo captures not only one of my memories, but one of the subjects, creating a very intimate link between the both of us. Our paths may not have crossed properly and may never cross again but the image is a living testament of this fragile encounter.

iustinium hey dude, why so philosophical today? might be the overdose of Swiss mountain air. But yes, it is the ability to capture the story behind a snapshot in time, that make a picture great.

the12thdude Give a man spare time and you'll eventually turn him into a philosopher

jpfromoz Great set and interesting philosophy too. There's something really fascinating about #6. The silhouette in the doorway is replete with symbolism...
