With all the doom and gloom around, and in particular the ecological and human disaster Japan has become, St. Patricks day seams a lot more muted this year. This is not a bad thing, it had become more a celebration of all things diddly aye and our ability to binge on cheap drink - perhaps we can revert back to a real celebration of things Irish, not just our ability to imbibe legal toxins, and its hidden crippling after effects - hopefully, if we looked at ourselves with more sober eyes, we might fix some of our many, but not insurmountable problems ...

"Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I've got a feeling
This year's for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true"
Shane MacGowan
