July 4th- Happy Birthday, 'merica

2009.07.04
We celebrated Independence Day by going to a backyard party at our friend Kirsten's place. She and her neighbors share a killer tree house of sorts- there's a ladder going into both of their yards.

Taken with my new iPhone. Before it got really crowded...(annotated)

Paul chowing down on a burger.

Don't know this girl, but had to take a picture of her old skool robot boom box.

Will and little Luka. He made some damn tasty Brussel Sprouts (see below).

His wife Marla (my friend first) and little Luka.

David, little Asa (as seen at the Pow Wow) and Andriana. I loved her shorts (cute, sailor style).

The best Brussel Sprouts EVER. Will made them by grilling them after marinating in a bit of balsamic, olive oil and a tiny bit of tamari. He then tossed them in with some Israeli cous cous (the big kind). Super delicious.

Someone brought this appropriate cake.

Me and Paul.

Didn't drink any of this (I drank Pimms), but I thought it had a lovely label.

Bump (R) and friends.

Door to the shed/garage.

I thought this li'l boy was cute- hanging out inside the hula hoop, eatin' his cake.

Cristin and me. She and I were both wearing patriotic colors (her trousers were red, white, and blue stripe). We also share a birthday in addition to impeccable taste in clothes ;-) (even if I am just about falling outta my top- oops ;-) )

One gal made home made, still hot from the oven lemon merengue tarts. Soooo yummy!!

(taken with the iPhone). Kirstar showing her mad hoopin' skills.

Ooops, gotta stop for some lemon tarts!

messy, but sooo, good! (the gal who made them is on the right in the weird shiny trousers.)

Cheryl, Annabel and Annabel's husband getting ready to chow down on some dogs.

Fireworks! (In the background is the Slip n Slide- a big hit with the kids).

More fireworks. The skinny dude in the foreground with the funny mohawk turned out to be a Swedish guy. I met him in the kitchen.

After fireworks, they hung a sheet on the shed, turned on a projector, and cleared the wooden deck so it could be a dance floor. Kirsten's boyfriend and Bump above, are both djs. The smaller shadow is me.

Taken with the iPhone.

Dance Party!! (she must have some tolerant neighbors).

...plus a fire to roast marshmallows. A fun day was had by all!
