October 22- bugs 'n flaurz 'n stuff

2009.10.22

Yesterday was another welcome (to me, anyway), almost unseasonably warm day. The flowers left in the waning garden were really diggin' it!

Does anyone know anything about bugs? There were almost a dozen of these guys flitting around my front porch yesterday. Perhaps we need to renew our exterminator contract. I hope they're not some kind of wood eating bug or anything...

These wildflaurz I planted are still hangin' on...

as is the lavender....

and these wildflaurz...

and these ones, too...

The bees were really enjoying the warm weather and our rosemary plant,

This is one of the last blooms left on this plant.

The calendula has a couple of blossoms left.

This guys was a lone wolf- I cut it and put it in a vase in our kitchen.

These guys are pretty stubborn- I think they'll easily last until the first frost.

Speaking of "bugs"- when we were in Japan, these masks were everywhere- now they're selling them here, right on the first endcap at Target- just below are several varieties of hand sanitizer- oh H1N1, what have ye wrought!!?? ;-)

poppyg I haven't seen any masks here as yet - which in a way is suprising with the number of people down with spring 'bugs'.
As to your bug - is it some sort of harlequin bug - have no idea of the official name - also referred to as soldier beetles.

snkysally I don't know what those bugs are either, but we found about a dozen of them on our porch screen door last weekend too!

lisamnz your garden must have been amazing in summer. I'll have to go back and look for photos. i would call those soldier beetles too. I don't think they're anything to worry about. i saw some japanese tourists in the same hotel I was staying at in Christchurch last week, constantly wearing masks like these.
