October 27- new blog and "Boarded Up"

2009.10.27
I've been feeling pretty discouraged and low as of late, in regards to the job search. I do know that in this economy, I am certainly not alone... like my friend Sheila said, I'm merely "one of the 10%".

There are a number of blogs out there in the blogesphere started by people in my situation- yesterday I decided to start my own. I used to have a written blog a few years ago- it's still out there- but it didn't really have a "theme", and at the time I didn't have the time to devote to it.
Times have certainly changed. Once I've a few more entries, I'm going to send out a big email, etc. and unveil the thing. In the meantime, it's another creative outlet for me and a way to put virtual pen to paper and hopefully connect with other people doing the same thing.

I had to go help my mom out a little yesterday. I drove back through "town". I know I usually show ya'll the cool and quirky Bawlamore, but the boarded up and downtrodden Bawlamore definately does exist.
Yet, it ain't all "Homicide" and "The Wire" here- as a matter of fact, that Baltiimore doesn't really impact my life all that much, but I deemed the blocks of blight you do see worthy of at least one day's worth of entries.

It's such a shame- these could have so much potential....

Right next to this one was a fully redone home with brand new windows. (annotated)

I was taking pictures at stoplights... I should be grateful that I am merely broke, not poor, I suppose...

Stav1 Good luck with the blog! I find w/ mine that it's a great way to express things that you don't have another outlet for. And you seem to know so many millions of people that maybe when you go public with it, it will lead to somethng else:-)

poppyg sad sad houses, I really don't think owners should be allowed to let a place deteriorate to such an extent they should be made to keep them liveable.

Oweena I wish I was more brave to be willing to be the first to go into a neighborhood and fix up a house.

lisamnz #3 in particular looks like a beautiful building. I hope they do get rescued at some stage, and not knocked down.

itch4travel Ohhhhhhhhh the potential I see in those houses! That's where you need a chunk of change to buy them all - fix em up and laugh and giggle all the way to the bank. Good luck with the blog - and the good thing is - its not going to be like this forever!

MelanieO One day those houses are going to be worth a small fortune again.

ShangriLa Good luck with the blog. It might have a therapeutic, ie motivating effect. It might help keep you spirits up and focused on the idea.
