July 18- Artscape 2010 (finally! outtathehouse!)

The day before I wasn't feeling up to going out, so I missed not only our friends' annual party out in the country (the one with their own pond), but also an expat barbeque at friends' Marci and Andy's place. I sulked at home watching back to back episodes of mid-00's science fiction series "Firefly", while Paul went out and enjoyed himself.
The result- next day I actually felt a good bit better- with Paul's help we hit the farmer's market and in the afternoon, I popped a painkiller and rode the light rail to Artscape, where I was able to walk around (s-l-o-w-l-y) one time. I was damned if the whole weekend was gonna a bust! Artscape is the annual arts festival here in Bawlamer- the largest of its kind in the country.

(Oh- BTW the above is a vendor picture and not typical of the usual arts, crafts and such being exhibited and sold. Had to post it, tho

My friend Kelley had a projected animation piece in this show (Sonheim award semi-finalists).

Called the "Eureka machine" I tried to snap a pic when "Eureka!" appeared but I wasn't fast enough.

Don't know the artist here, but I liked them. Made of wood.

My friend Missy's costumes (you might remember from her gallery show last year).

This peice was cool- made up of a bunch of these little cut out pins made from maps...

Step back and this is what it looks like (again, don't know the artist, but liked the piece).

There are several stages with music- I wasn't up to hanging around and watching much if it... I had about 2 hours before I'd be worn out and need to be back on the light rail. (Maybe next year- not really any acts this year I was itchin' to see anyway).

Taharka Brothers (local) key lime pie ice cream. It's like crack it's sooo good!!

Spoon had a booth on the arty midway- "Love letters". You write an anonymous letter to a stranger (ie. a blue eyed redhead in a sundress, or a woman in a sari, etc), and her mail deliverers deliver the letter anonymously. Cool idea! (Remember she's the same one who did the apologies by proxy last year).

Booth was decorated inside and out. Uli is a friend that has moved to Mexico- it was nice to see her name! :-)

She wouldn't let me leave without getting a love letter- this was was addressed to "someone who loves the ocean".

This was cute. A squid with a guy inside squirting people with a squirt gun. The kids obviously loved it.

And of course the Art Cars. This one was "Grundelhammer"
