Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau

We had to take a picture in front of Mendenhall Glacier to claim the geocache here.

Icebergs floating in the lake below the glacier. I don't think I'd ever seen a real iceberg before this.

Hubbard Glacier

The ice from the glacier had visible layers.
|
This was one time when the poor weather we ran into actually worked for us...apparently the overcast conditions allow you to better see the blue color in the ice.

We saw some calving of the glacier...the sound was more spectacular than the sight. They called the sound "white thunder" because it really sounded like thunder.

There was a river flowing out from under the glacier here.

This was a glacier flowing down next to Hubbard Glacier.

This boat was waiting to take our spot at Hubbard Glacier...everywhere we went there were cruise ships.

Not much ice in this picture...but she felt icy. This was at Denali National Park and the wind chill was considerable.

She looks a little less enthusiastic about this picture. Tom in the background getting a picture of Mt. McKinley....

...and this was the photo he got of the mountain. We were lucky to see this much of the mountain. It's usually shrouded by the clouds.
