a blank screen

only memories...

a virtual death...

somebody sad behind the screen...

i'm sad...
I am sad because I lost a friend on photoblog. When I started my blog, my intention was simply to divide photographs with other amateurs of photographs and to have their opinion on mine. i was not completely knowing the operation of this microcosm, I was unaware of saw anonymous photographs ravelling, names, comments. In front of the multitude of photographs and names, I thought that all that was anonymous...
Since I discovered that the network of friends, the favorite images, the challenges, the topics, create a mini company with its complicities, its affinities or enmities between bloggeurs. By these regular visits, these messages, these comments, a relation is created; By the photographs one builds an idea of his friends and the regular contacts create a bond.
Obviously, I know well that about PB, it is of good time to be eulogistic, that the comments are always positive... I even wondered whether a virgin image, would not have favorable comments... I also know that PB is an artificial world, that the Web is a virtual world, I know all that!
But how to remain insensitive to such an amount of human warm, complicity, impatience in waiting of new a post of his/her friends, their comments which one knows well that they will be tolerant and flattering!
But when one somebody would like one, appreciates to make him sorrow? Isn't this hypocrisy, it's not simply of softness and user-friendliness?
Today I lost a friend on photoblog, you disappeared from my "friend list" and with you, your images, your comments, your messages, it is nothing... I would not have any more the joy of discovering your new post, happiness to see you in photographs, to discover your last jokes! You even carried with you my favorite images which I had chosen on your post;
There remain nothing any more you but one great vacuum... that memories... Because you closed your blog! You cut the wire which connected to us with you, it is a white screen, a virtual death.
In front of this stopped bond I feel sad and nostalgic, it is like a mourning. I lost a friend!
Yes, in this virtual world one does not remain about it less the human ones!
Yes, one can stick to misadventures!
Yes, beyond the screen there are people whom now I will miss forever!

Good continuation in your new life, my friends jasmine, Maximus, and jj...

Beagles3 THis was a great narration of what it is to have friends in the virtual world. I have greatly enjoyed my Webblog friends and all of their photos. I have seen so many new places in the world. Marveled at the talents of so many.

Your words are poignant and sad to know that when one of us leaves it is noticed. Even though we live in this virtual community together, losing a friend is just as sad as losing someone we know "in person".

I love your final photo of Tomie. Such a sweet face....

ClaudePechabaden AH, des beaux mots, Tomie! Des mots qui sont doux a entendre... The feelings, the connection...

Peche A beautiful, impassioned and post full of care and thought, Max.
I was sad, myself, to read that you were sad from the loss of a friend... and you are right... no matter the context, no matter the world, the loss of a friend, be it through disconnection, miscommunication or death, is as equally as grievesome. For me, the tenth shot epitomises this loss - the red tones, the dof and the subject work so well with your words.
What is just as heartwarming is the fact that you took care to notice that one of your friends was no longer on here - that kind of care is not very common in this world and says much of your character.
:) Take care, mon ami, I hope your sadness lifts....

TheCrazyCroat I just put #5 in my faves.

I'm so sorry you lost a friend here. Even though this is virtual, there are living human beings behind each pic we post and every person we correspond with. I'm sorry to hear of your sadness.

miclaud · 2008-04-23: 17:07

mclps Hey Max, I'm sorry to hear of your sadness over a loss of a friend. I understand how you feel. And yes, while this is a virtual world, there are living, feeling, human beings behind each set of photos and comments. How many of us wouldn't just love to meet in a cafe and share our experiences with each other. But instead, while we can't touch each other, we do get to know each other through a lens - which I think is very powerful, emotional and human. Peace to you my friend. :)
