The yearly Lantern Festival was celebrated in a nearby park by an overflow crowd. Since this is the year of the rat, Mickey Mouse was made the guest of honor (mice are like rats, right?).

The main event was in the bowl-shaped arena just out of sight where the lights are very bright. Inside, Taiwanese celebrities sang, and the action was projected onto big screens for the overflow crowd. Unfortunately, we didn't have tickets to go in.

There were all kinds of glowing colored toys for the children. For the adults, one of the most popular accessories was glowing demon horns, similar to those sported by some of the Taiwanese religious idols.

Along one side of the park was this colorful walkway, covered over with flashing lights. We don't know if there was any particular symbolism to walking through it.
