I headed down south today to hang out with my sis and attend what was advertised on the invitation to be a 'celebration of 25 years of women in the MIAC', our collegiate athletic conference. I received a scholarship and a monetary award during senior year as a result of my participation in the MIAC, so I figured I should go. Plus, I thought we'd hear stories about the development of women in athletics at our school, which would be cool. Wrong. It was a celebration of memories from the "glory sports" - volleyball and basketball - by three alumni younger than me. Now why wouldn't they try to spread out the panel across the 25 years? Track was mentioned a few times. Not a mention of any other sport. There were only about 5 alumni there - most of the attendance was made up of the volleyball and basketball teams. And the two people who I'd hoped to see there didn't come. I was disappointed - it could have been much better.
However, the two hours before that 'celebration' were very fun. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, so K and I wandered around campus, she played some volleyball, we walked in the arb, and we had a feast at the dining hall. It was great to be able to spend some leisurely time on campus again.
