Joshua Tree

Another one from the archives.

Of all the national parks I've visited, Joshua Tree is my favorite. It's here in Southern California and I've been there to see many sunrises and sunsets. I've always felt a sense of calm in the desert and especially here. If you've ever watched any of Joss Whedon's shows (Buffy, Angel, Firefly), then you've seen it because he used it a lot in his scenes.

Joshua Teree is another place that looks like it belongs on the moon. It's vast and weird and hot and cold and open with lots of sky. The top photo I took with my 4x5 view camera, you know...the kind with bellows that you have to stick your head under a black cloth and load the film into cartridges in a black bag. Let me tell you, hiking over rocks with something like that is not easy and I am in awe of the first photographers who did it all over the west. This photo, I have blown up to a 16x20 and hanging over my bed.
