Ode to Blue

2007.03.29

This is my bike, Blue. She is the oldest of the 3 bikes I currently own (11 years old). Blue is a Schwinn, like my first bike and my second bike and my fourth bike. I am loyal, can you tell?

When I decided to try living without a car almost 3 years ago, Blue was the only bike I had and my ticket to freedom. Sure, she can be persnickity when you try and change gears in the back (mostly she doesn't) but it just makes life that much more interesting. It's really nice not having to worry about car payments, insurance, gas, and repairs. But the freedom comes from knowing your legs and your bike can take you where ever you need to go. :)

P.S. I took this photo of Blue when I was out taking photos of the poppies from the past couple of days. I thought she was a cheery sight.

dgarun Not at all. A person who change his bike four times, how can you say him loyale? :-)

vollenda Okay, maybe I should clarify that my first Schwinn I got when I was 6 and the 2nd one I got when I was 10! I still have the Schwinn mountain bike (Kermit) and Blue. Yes, I name my bikes.

chipotle i miss my schwinns. my first was a coppertone stingray. (i REALLY wish my parents had kept that one.) my second a bright yellow varsity. and my third a pale opaque blue le tour; that was the one that made me love bikes.

blue is worthy of an ode.

Carley There once was a bike named "Old Blue"
Through city and country she flew
Until once, toward the rear
Lisa shifted a gear
.....then what did persnickety Blue do?
Carley · 2007-03-29: 11:16

photopoet My Schwinn was fire engine red and beautiful. Your bike is a winged mode of transportation—and she does take you to wonderful places. It's a great photo.

aggiechristine I love the post processing on this and that you named your bike (and so creatively too ;-) )! How wonderful that you traded in a car for your bike!
aggiechristine · 2007-04-01: 01:01
vollenda Haha. Yeah, Blue was the easy name. But it fits. Thanks everyone. :)
