Snake In The Grass

2007.05.31

Besides the rose, I picked up a bunch of flowers at the store. These are some of the tiny "fller" flowers in the bunch. On Monday, I took them out on the balcony to take photos of them. We are currently having "June Gloom" which means that we have foggy, overcast mornings. It makes for nice even lighting. And then when the sun starts to peak out, you can get some nice lighting effects.

I was also playing around with dof this time. My usual modus operandi is to go for maximum dof when shooting macros.

Spike, of course, was his usual sneaky self and showed up to check out the flowers, especially the grasses. I think he was trying to hide in it. But I saw him. He didn't even care that he was caught. So, we were both entertained for a few hours. Money well spent.

Stats - D200, 70-180 macro lens, ISO 100 on my tripod.

1 - 180mm 1/400s @ F5.6
2 - 180mm 1/50s @ F11

No processing on these except to add the border and the watermark.

3-5 are of Spike with my CatCam - the Coolpix S50.

vollenda Thanks!

I am so glad you enjoy my Spike pics. You know, Spike has been Unbearable to live with ever since he found out how popular he is. Now he has demands that I only catch his "good" side. :)

aggiechristine Spike is a hunter - he's going to catch that grass! I love the dof and composition of your second shot - lovely!

kangshung Love the dof work in both the first two, wonderful colours too! The SpikeCam shots are great - I guess he pulls that dead-pan look to act as though he is not really interested in the flowers.
