Morgan's Grand Canyon Photos

2007.07.26
Her sister, Madison, posing with a horse and some strange guy.

Squirrel admiring a tree.

A paid model posing in front of the Grand Canyon.

That will be 50 nuts, please.

Pst...horses are over-rated.

It was a dark and stormy day...

My SpikeCam returneth from the Grand Canyon. These photos were all taken by my 9 1/2 year old niece, Morgan, with my Nikon Coolpix S50. There were 300+ photos that I've been going thru tonight. I may be biased, but I think she did pretty darn good. These are only a few (of many) that I liked. :)

You may be able to tell from these photos that she likes animals, thus the squirrels and the mule. There were all birds and horses and chipmunks, oh my! :) I was surprised at some of her shots, like the tree thru the rainy window and her placement of the horizon. She's asked for a camera for her birthday, by the way!

The last shot I included because of the story that goes with it. They were in a shop selling beautiful rugs and pottery and Morgan really liked some of it. So she asked the owner if she could take some photos. The owner said yes. Then she told my mom that her husband was a photographer and he had asked her to encourage any children that came in with cameras! Isn't that cool? Thank you to both of them!

P.S. I didn't crop any of these and played with contrast only a smidgeon on a couple of the canyon shots.

Carley Wow! Get that girl a camera! Fast! Her shots are gorgeous, and far beyond what I would expect from someone so young. Looks like talent runs in the family!

Jackie WOW! Nice shots Morgan. It appears Morgan and I have the same eye. I was recently admonished by my Mother for all the shots of animals and none of the people I was with on my last trip. I love the tree through the rain soaked window.
Jackie · 2007-07-26: 08:40
chipotle she's got a great eye for composition. the mule is perfect.
chipotle · 2007-07-26: 08:55
bold i'm sure there was some hesitation on your part... i mean, picturing your coolpix crashing down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon never to be seen again... congrats on trusting Morgan... and, for giving Morgan some memories for a lifetime.

not that she needs any more, she's photographed more than Paris Hilton!

vollenda Thanks everyone! I'll tell her what you all said!

I must admit that thought did cross my mind once or twice. :) Really I was more worried about the adults than Morgan. But it was well worth it!

The great thing is that my mom and her parents are also fully supporting having her explore photography.

jwideman Wow!! I can't believe she took all of these shots. She did a REALLY great job! Very creative. I hope this is something that she is interested in pursuing because she is really good at it. Congrats to her and her proud auntie!

ACH365 Congratulations, Morgan! You have created some really nice pictures here. I've seen many (many, many) adults who don't have a smidget of the talent for pictures that you clearly do. Your favorite Aunt must be sharing all her knowledge with you.

way to go, morgan!

susanabanana This is my daughter. I was so amazed when she came back with these photos. I wish my sister had put a picture of her up so that you can see that she is just as beautiful as her pictures. With the aide of her Tia Lisa and the support of her family, she will be able to grow as an artist. I knew she would be creative as she is a lefty.
susanabanana · 2007-08-01: 23:37
JenniferLynn Did you know that they take mules or donkeys or asses...or whatever...instead of horses to the grand canyon because horses will jump off ledges and asses will not. So don't make an ass of yourself and ride a horse in the Grand Canyon. :) Sorry, interesting fact...had to share lol.
JenniferLynn · 2007-08-06: 18:04
Morgan Thank you everybody for writing these nice comments about my pictures. :)
