218 Feet - Theme

2007.08.27
How a hat begins - a loom, a hook, and two skeins of yarn.

As I loom, the rows build up and the center shrinks.

The finished hat with a tiny roll for the brim.

More roll for a little sass.

Major roll for my quirky side.

Next hat in progress. Part of the fun is choosing the colors that I will use together. The Yarn aisle is like the Bermuda Triangle for me. You can disappear for a long time in there while you choose stuff!

I'm hooked on it. ;)

Spike meowing at my feet because I'm ignoring him.

And now he's gone to see what trouble he can get into. Or maybe he just didn't like my bllue toes. :)

*******************************************************
This weekend I knitted a hat. It's actually more like looming. I use this round loom that I got at Michaels. It came in a set of 4 different sizes. This is the largest.

Basically, you take the yarn and loop it around each peg until you have two rows. Then you use the hook to pull one row over the other. Then add another row of yarn and repeat until you are have the length you want. Then you can either crochet the top closed or run the yarn back thru with a needle and pull it closed.

You can make hats with brims or just keep knitting. I like to make hats without brims because the ends naturally roll up and then you can wear it with or without a brim, a little or a lot. It makes it kind of versatile.

Anyway, it uses about 3 feet of yarn per row and there are about 36 rows in this hat. Two strands of yarn was used for a total of 218 Feet. It sounds like a lot of yarn for such a little hat!

P.S. The last two are my feet with my blue toes and Spike. Because SOMEONE said "enough with spike" and to turn my camera on myself. Hmpf. Here you go! Brat, eh? :P

Jackie interesting. Perhaps the one who said "enough of Spike" really wants to see more of Spike? I like the insight on how you go about your creative projects.

JuliaGotz you made elegant, interesting compositions out of the elements. I like the round loom on the grey background, and the way you place the other elements.
