Watermark in Purple

2007.08.30
Feeling blue because she can't see the sun.

All aglow as she basks in the warm sun.

Solar powered. Like me & Spike.

This flower is from the same bunch as the flower the last two days. But purple. I was photographing them outside on the balcony. When I started, the sky was overcast and then at the end the sun came out.

#1 is underexposed (probably about 1/2 stop) under overcast skies. 90mm 1/125s @ F11.

#2 & #3 were taken as the sun came out. 70mm & 180mm both 1/80s @ F11. This color in these two photos is the true color. I didn't touch the color in any of them. Just added a border and the watermark.

So...the watermark. I created it in Photoshop Elements 5 from the instructions in The Photoshop Elements 5 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby. Here's how you do it:

First create a "brush" (the letters in parenthesis are the shortcut keys)
1. Create a new blank file (Ctrl+N)
2. Add the copyright symbol with the Custom Shape Tool (U).
3.Add text (T) and type in your name (or whatever you want in the watermark).
4. Change the font, size, etc. until it has the style you want.
5. Position it next to the copyright symbol.
6. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) to select the watermark.
7. Then choose Define Brush from Selection in the Edit menu. It will have you name it and then click OK.

Voila, a new brush. I created mine in black about 542 px. But the great thing is that you can change the color any time and the size depending on the photo you are using. To add it to the photo:

1. Create a new layer on top of your photo.
2. Press B to get the Brush tool.
3. Select the watermark from the list of brushes and set your color and size.
4. Place the watermark on the photo where you want it.
5. Adjust the opacity of the layer until it fades enough to be seen but not get in the way.

Once I created the brush, it takes seconds to add it to a photo. You can add it to the photo without a new layer and still change the opacity but I think it's easier to change it and see it in a new layer.

kangshung Interesting to see the difference in colour between the 1st and 2nd photos - all from being half a stop under! They're all very good, as usual - but I love #3.

emmetan i like the last shot... and the way you described it
emmetan · 2007-08-30: 06:50
bolder looking at yesterdays, and the first underexposed, the background board seems better to me in the first, than the last two... shoot the lock off your wallet, and get something proper! you deserve it!!

maybe, just reduce Spike's modeling fees for starters... maybe, he won't notice...

Carley They are absolutely gorgeous....especially the first one!
I"m going to admit my stupidity and ask: is the watermark the "LMG Photography?"
Carley · 2007-08-30: 20:45
chipotle i often prefer slightly underexposed shots. i like deepness it can lend to colors. and i like the shadows.
