Silver Pot

original Silver Pot

These two shots are from inside the Adobe House at Olvera Street. I thought I would post the originals along with the processed.

Why did I take the first set? I was taken by the lightness of the garments and the table cloth and the pitcher. But the light was too harsh. Well, really it was dark in there and I had to use my flash which gave it the harshness. So I...
-added a sepia layer at 50%
-adjusted the levels to deepen the darker tones
-added a frame layer with a slight fade at the edges.

to give it more of the antique feel that I experienced on that day.

It was the pot in the second set that caught my eye. I wanted to focus the shot on it, so I...
-converted it to b&w with a red filter.
-adjusted the levels to deepen the blacks
-added a sepia layer at 75%.

What do you think of the before and afters?

Stats - D200 w/ 28-105mm lens.

youlookmahvelous Great conception and the sepia brings the age to life.

miclaud Good! #1 is my favourite.

kangshung Magnificent work yet again Lisa! Thanks for including the originals - it's like seeing your photographic genius at work. Not so sure about the first - they look like very well worn bloomers, perhaps 25% sepia would have been enough! The second is stupendous - the pot definitely stars and the blue plates become almost inconsequential.

fionarobinson i like the after shots, as they are more nostalgic, and i think the original colour one distract the eye.

Carley Great idea! I like seeing both the original and the edited version. The first one: I like the sepia one better, but it's a little darker than I would like to see it. (The bloomers look a little dirty to me.) The second one I think is perfect with the sepia. It makes the pot take center stage.... The original doesn't focus on it as well. Beautiful set!!

eljapa First one is great, very nice work. Much better then the original.

mybigbackyard Wonderful post - I love that you've included your editing process. I agree with Carly and kangshung - I think the first is a little dark. Other than that, the sepia versions are just perfect for the subjects.
