one thing i've noticed since returning to film is that the big machines that print the pictures (or, for me, CDs) don't believe that you would intend to shoot great expanses of darkness. the norm results in some sort of faded mush. i think one thing i would like about a nice digital outfit is the ability to exercise complete control over the process without having a darkroom.
