Jealousy

2008.01.27
Envy

Regret

Yesterday, Gaspar mentioned that yellow roses can be considered bad luck. In the Victorian times, they represented jealousy and dying love. Funny how your perception of something can be determined by were you grew up and when.

I would love to say that I never get jealous, but alas, I am human...

“Jealousy is a tiger that tears not only its prey but also its own raging heart” ~ author unknown

Still, I try to be a good woman. That must count for something.

pattyb That has to be about the best quote on jealousy I have ever seen.

Both of these shots are gorgeous. Don't know if I could pick a favorite. I appreicate the dark, rich look of the first one. The second one draws me into the pedals...

jet28 These seem so melancholy - remind me of Victorian tombstones ...

kangshung Both are very beautiful Lisa, but #2 has a softness that makes it more appealing to me. Also, regret is a more healthy state than envy.

Lynda Interesting to hear what the language of flowers was in bygone times. But nowadays we can just enjoy them without reading too much significance into them. Nice dramatic shots.

lexlevans yellow roses are also considered friendship roses :-)

i like what you did to these though - they are so crisp and beautiful even in black and white.
lexlevans · 2008-01-27: 13:34
Estel Beautiful shots. I think it is healthy to be a bit jealous...isn't it better than being indifferent?
Estel · 2008-01-27: 13:52

tcalbaz vollenda you're always up to something interesting. This is a beautiful composition. Great use of smooth and rough texture. The rose reminds me of fine porcelain.
