What a Dahl

2008.06.30
Ember

Sparks

Burnt

Flames

These dahlias that I bought at the store were a little worse for wear. They were packed tight in the bin and weren't allowed to breathe. But I still thought they were beautiful. They reminded me of fire. :) And this song by one of all time favorites. I am the moth sometimes...

The Moth - Aimee Man

"The moth don't care when he sees the flame
he might get burned but he's in the game
and once he's in he can't go back, and
beat his wings 'til he burns them black
no the moth don't care when he sees the flame
no the moth don't care when he sees the flame

the moth don't care if the flame is real
cuz flame and moth got a sweetheart deal
and nothing fuels a good flirtation
like need and anger and desperation
no the moth don't care if the flame is real
no the moth don't care if the flame is real

So come on let's go ready or not
cuz there's a flame I know hotter than hot
and with a fuse that's so thoroughly shot
away

the moth don't care if the flame burns low
cuz moth believes in an afterglow
and flames are never doused completely
all you really need is a love of heat
no, the moth don't care if the flame burns low
no, the moth don't care if the flame burns low

So come on let's go ready or not
cuz there's a flame I know hotter than hot
and with a fuse that's so thoroughly shot
away"

Madoc I love when flowers are not too «perfect», a bit faded. It gives them more texture. That might explain why shot #3 is my fav in this set.
But all are absolutely gorgeous. Very well done, Lisa.

MHJphotos Perfect work of an imperfect subject. Your one word descriptions were a perfect match to each, delightful image. I agree too with Madoc ... the imperfections in #3 make it my favorite of the set.

Are these all using your single south facing lightsource technique?

focussed The color, light and clarity in this set is astounding. #3 is really really lovely. I like being able to see the colour variations in the stem and the wilting petals add so much interest.

makaid I like number three. The composition is great and I love the lines produced by the curving of the dying petals.
makaid · 2008-06-30: 17:08
kangshung All are delicious colours Lisa - my favs are the last two.
kangshung · 2008-06-30: 17:27
etodd80 Great lighting and colors. I really like #2. Such a contrast between the top petals that are alive and the ones on the bottom that are withering. Nice shots!

Jannie Wow!! You make even the wilty parts look stellar! I would love to have you shoot my dahlia beds. I think it's really fun to see through different photographers eyes. Patty & I have fun with that. We can shoot the same thing standing next to each other & the shots look totally separate. Wow again! I love this set.
