TSC - Wee Furry Beastie

2008.07.18
I just act tough. I'm really a big softie.

It's not my fault I've lived a sheltered life.

Anyone want to be my bodygaurd?

A little over 3 weeks ago, Spike was out on the balcony by himself. It wasn't completely dark yet and I'm sure he was watching the crowd in the pool. You may recall that I've called him Mr. Kravitz before as he's really nosy and likes to spy on the neighborhood.. After all, it's what cats do third best. First being napping and second being eating, of course.

All of a sudden, I heard a noise. A loud bang. And Spike came tearing into my bedroom like a cat out of hell. He dove in the closet (his favorite spot to sleep in when I'm not home). I went to check out the balcony but I didn't see anyone or anything. It was a total mystery to what the noise was that scared my scaredy cat!

So...he was in the closet for more than an hour before he came slowly out. He was all cautious cat as if testing the ground he was walking up to make sure it was solid. He didn't go back outside that night. In fact, he hasn't been out on the balcony since then unless I'm with him! The place he used to beg to go to everyday when I got home he now won't step foot on without an escort. What the blooming heck happened out there?

I wish I knew what scared my wee furry beastie.

P.S. I may not catch up with your blogs til the weekend. Hope you have a good one. :)

pattyb Oh...pick me! Pick me!! ; )) I'd love kittyguard.

I wonder if a bird darted down after him or something? Whatever it was it sounds quite traumatic. He might need a few sessions of therapy or deep massage!

Love that last look....

Lynda A firework or backfiring car? Great shots. He'll eventually get over it and want to go outside again..

bundlesofjoy Great post. Love these B&W shots.

I hate to say this but it sounds like a neighbor or passerby didn't share your feelings about how he sounded while he was on the balcony. I think someone may have thrown something at him or used an object to shut him up. That would explain why he doesn't go back. It was very tramatic to him. Sorry to hear about his big fright. I hope he returns to his normal self soon.

Have a GREAT weekend.

japarker Poor kitty! I hope that he's made a full recovery. Who knows what scared him? It could have been anything. My cats get skiddish when I put the dishes away.

focussed What a mystery! When I first started reading I thought you were going to tell us that Spike fell off the balcony! This happened to my sisters cat once (4 stories up, and yes, he was fine!) I love the title of your post too..."Beastie" is one of the many nick names for Oliver, so this gave me a good chuckle. Have I ever mentioned how handsome Spike is? He really is a beauty. Anyway, I hope he is well and truly over his mystery spook.

jagungal as always, Spike makes a charming subject — even when he has been traumatized! #1 is especially good!

storytaylor Spike will survive with elegance and perseverance. he has a girlfriend?
storytaylor · 2008-07-22: 05:11
Jannie I will partner with Pattyb to be Spikes kitty-guard!! We will guard him well. It makes me want to cry to think of someone being so mean as to scare his sweet self. Kittys are most excellent at picking up survival vibes. He KNEW he was in danger. Poor baby. He is so beautiful. You portray his beauty & his vulnerability all at once!
