Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi born in Colmar.The work for which Bartholdi is most famous is Liberty Enlightening the World, the Statue of Liberty, donated in 1886 by the Union Franco-Americaine (Franco-American Union),
Bartholdi Frédéric Auguste , francia szobrász, *1834. 1904. Monumentális emlékszobrokkal tette nevét ismertté, (Rapp tábornok szobra Colmarban, a belforti Oroszlán). 1871 után Amerikába költözött, ott megalkotta élete fômûvét: a new-yorki kikötô 34 m magas talapzaton álló 33 m magas Szabadságszobrát, (egyben világítótorony).
