A Morning on the National Mall
2008.06.21
This is the Women's Vietnam Memorial located near The Wall. I was struck by the realism in both faces. The post processing consisted of a slight vignette around the edged and some dodge/burn in order to correct some hot spots and bring out a little shadow details.

I just wanted to capture this because of the lines. On top of the cool quote from President Truman, the lines create a clean composition. The post work consisted of changing in to B

This is probably my favorite of the images I captured that morning. When I think about democracy and freedom, I often think it comes down to just this...a soldier and his rifle. Post work consisted of changing to B

This is a portion of the soldier seen in the first image up top. I think the hanging hand along with the easily identifiable GI issued boot says it all. Post work consisted of blending the color image with a B

This was shot at the WWII Memorial. I loved how the rising sun created that back lit look on both the fountain and the Washington Momument. Post work just consisted of making some levels adjustments and slight hue adjustment for the sky. I think I also did a bit of dodging to the fountain to make it a bit lighter.

This is an easily identifiable image and has probably been done thousands of times. But it is special for me because it is the first time I have captured it and it is such a powerful thing to be standing there and looking into the eyes of these soldiers who are larger than life...standing watch over the names of the fallen on The Wall.

On the Mall as you walk from the WWII to Vietnam Memorials, there is a small pond on the inside of the mall area with a tiny island. These willows were on that tiny island and I just loved the way they light hit them, the reflections in the water, and the feeling of softness it gave.

This was taken at the WWII Memorial under one of the large archways at either end. I enjoy finding photos from lesser seen perspectives. So, as I stood under the arch I looked up.
Post work consisted of creating two layers, one for the sky and the other for the wreath. I blended the two layers then cleaned it up a bit and added some sharpness.

Taken from the north side of the WWII Memorial. The lighting coming in from the left made it perfect for a wide-angle landscape type shot.
