A random lizard, first shot with my new macro lens. The reptile was skittish otherwise I would have liked to get a bit closer.

A part of the village of Komiza. More "genuine" than "picturesque".

The wasps were ubiquitous around Komiza, thankfully they were pretty docile as long as you let them know you're still alive.

The exoskeleton of a (by me) unidentified bug. They were all over the place so I guess they shed them as they grow. If anyone knows what they are please tell me,

The Blue Cave. This picture is a tribute to the people at Panasonic. A handheld exposure at full aperture and a shutter time of almost a second and you can still see what it is. The image stablization on the Lumix is supernatural.

Some pictures from a holiday on the Croatian island of Vis in the village of Komiza. I had a new Canon Eos 400 with a Sigma 30 mm 1.4 and a Canon 60 mm 2.8 macro which it was fun putting through the paces. Both lenses were brilliant although I would have needed a tripod to do the macro lens justice. As a backup I had a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ5. The amazingly effective image stabalization stood me in good stead in the Blue Cave (handheld 1/2 second exposure!) which is a submerged cave with an underwater opening at the far end that lets the sunlight in through the sea water which gives it it's characteristic blue glow. Just so you know what you're looking att in the last picture, it's a junkheap at the back of the main church i Komiza which is very old and pictureque with a very neat churchyard. But a stones throw away there is an awesome pit where they just tip the old flowers, wreaths, coffins and God knows what. Out of sight, out of mind :)
A review of Komiza I put on:
