Queuing for Food

2008.06.18
To get a bite to eat, they spend half-day. When would their lives be better?

People:

These are homeless victims from HNIT PIN SAING Village of DAE DA YAE township, IRRAWADDY division. They are waiting for the food supply and aids from international community. Nargis Cyclone had wiped out US$ 5 billion during its overnight trip to BURMA. The IRRAWADDY DIVISION, formerly known as RICE POT of BURMA, now becomes desert of the delta.

emmetan great capture!

I noticed that the women like to put on white powder on their face. Is it for beauty purpose?

GranAbby It is a wonderful gift to the world to see your "real" photos of the situation in the Irrawaddy delta. Thanks for sharing.

PT Dear emmetan,
I saw ur comment and want to give u explaination on it. Well, the white powder u saw on women's faces is called Tha Nat Khar in Burmese. It can only be found in burma. Women use the stem of Tha Nat Khar Tree to get Tha Nat Khat in liquid form and wear on faces. It is known to be as a very good skin care from nature. Please refer to the following link to get to see another pic as well http://www.treklens.com/gallery/Asia/Myanmar/photo3638.htm
