Chinese God of Ocean

2008.10.06
this is God of Ocean...

every year, he celebrates his birthday for 9 days and Chinese people pay homage to him by eating vegetarian meals during the festival days...

FRUITS are the main offerings to the god since it is a vegetarian god...

the temple is just a small one thus thousands of people gotta squeeze into this small space during the festival days...

i dunno how to call it in English... that's a kind of appetizer made from flour filled with red bean cream... some people offer this to the god...

that's very tradition of Chinese... we fire the gold/silver papers and pray...

Burmese Chinese girls...

a Chinese old woman praying... they say the prayers in very high volume... i simply don't understand the language she speaks... not Mandarin Chinese...

i saw this lady praying... you know how long she takes? more than 5min... i wonder what she is praying for...

everything related to the god is "9"... 9 vegetarian days, people offer 9 varieties of fruits, 9 candles to the god... 9 is a lucky number for us...

People:

Today is the very propitious birthday of Chinese God of Ocean. It’s a vegetarian god who governs the ocean and the sea, according to the myth. In some faiths, God of Ocean is referred to as Poseidon. Anyway, this post is in dedication to the birthday celebration of God of Ocean.

I woke up 5:30 in the morning to pay homage to the god on his birthday. That’s what I have been doing since I was in 8th grade. When the birthday comes, the believers have to become vegetarian for 9 days. Yes, I have been eating vegetarian meals for the past 9 days. It’s been 9 days that the god receives homage at his Sin Oh Dann Street residence. Every year on his birthday, Chinese people send the god to the sea and give him a visit. Thousands of Chinese people go along with the God riding on hundreds of boats. When I was young, I used to go to the sea… but now I don’t get this chance anymore. I gotta be at office so, I just paid homage in the morning.
