As most know I usually stick with Landscape, I feel most comfortable with this medium. This time I thought it might be fun to branch out into a little Portrait Photography, any constructive thoughts on improvement in this area is appreciated.

My model is my niece and as you can tell she likes the camera or the camera likes her.

ambersunsets You should do this more. These portraits are very well done. I especially like the last shot. What a doll!

paintbox How can you go wrong with such a beautiful face? No criticism here.

MHJphotos The camera DOES like her! #3 is simply magical. Her facial expression is absolutely fantastic.

As a 'nature' shooter myself, I completely understand the desire to 'branch out' and push ourselves beyond our comfort zones. Portraiture is a GREAT way to do it!

Congratulations, and I for one, look forward to seeing you push yourself into something new!!!

ncshutterbug Such a beautiful child. I love all of them, but especially #1. I don't have any improvement tips to offer, as I don't shoot portraits myself. However, I know what I like, and I like these. :)

Sheldon I like the subject - good choice. The way she is glancing away and the little wisps of hair are excellent. I wonder if a little more light would be even better.

eljapa The pose in the first shot is perfect but missing some sharpnes in all three. I see that you were working on 300mm, perhaps the quality gets better when you zoom out a bit and get closer. The images are losing quality when using the end of the focus length. Or get a bit more light (higher iso) to be able to turn up the speed..
She's very beautiful btw.
