Storks Dancing in the Air

2008.03.16

Carring a transmitter.

Marked with paint.

Seeking for snowscape, I went to Toyo-oka City. Unfortunately, not so much snow lay on the ground as I had expected. At the feeding time, white storks (Ciconia ciconia) that had been released from raising cage gathered one after another.

In close-up, you should notice white storks are so big, which have a wingspan of two meters.

A hundred years ago, white storks were common at rice fields. Now, no wild stork breeds in Japan, and it is very rare to see them. However, a hundred of white storks are caged and bred in Toyo-oka. Several of them were released to be back to nature. by yumisakurai

gderuiter These are beautiful! It is interesting as well to read about the conservation efforts on behalf of these birds. I love their bright red legs!
