Material Gathering for Nest by Tree Wasp
2008.08.03
A tree wasp (Polistes jadwigae Radoszkowski) was gnawing a branch of Japanese beautyberry (top). While I continue to watch to find out what it was doing, it moved to a clothespole and made the bark, it hade taken by gnawing. into a ball by crunching. (middle). At last, it changed the stage to a leaf of sunflower and continued to crunch it with holding the ball with the forefeet (bottom). The wasp might use the material to extend its house somewhere.
