Day 3: Washington, DC

2008.06.18
The White House. Unfortunately due to heightened security measures since Sep 01, visitors who wish to enter the White House would need to submit their requests through their Congress men or embassies. So, we would have to be satisfied with snapping photos from outside the fence.

National Archives. We stood in line for nearly an hour to see the actual Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Bill of Rights. Frankly, it was a bit anti-climatic when we actually got to see those documents.

The Capitol. Unfortunately, we did not arrive early enough to get the free passes to enter the building. Apparently, the passes run out as early as 9am.

Thomas Jefferson Building, Library of Congress. I really appreciated the free tour given by the docent, who provided rather insightful explanations to the meaning and arrangement of various murals and paintings in the building.

A new building in DC - the Newseum, an interactive museum of news and jouranlism.

Tthe front pages of some of the daily newspapers of the country.

A shot of the Washington monument and the reflecting pool from the Lincoln Memorial.

For my husband :D Taken at the World War II Memorial.

The Lincoln Memorial.

For me, this was one of the must-visit sites in DC. For some strange reasons, I had been dying to visit this place since watching the Planet of the Apes. (In the last scene of the movie, the statue of Lincoln was replaced by that of General Thade.)
